Roles & Responsibilities

  1. For the course of the internship, the intern will assist UNIC staff in the implementation of UN initiatives and events. The following are some of the UN’s current major campaigns:
    • Climate Change
    • Peacekeeping
  2. Assist the UNIC team with content generation for the website and social media platforms.
  3. Conduct background research and preparation for events and campaigns.
  4. Assist with the planning and logistics of events.
  5. Assist with events and initiatives for the UNIC/UNRC joint communication team.
  6. Other everyday responsibilities dependent on the demands and background of the individual.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Program, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
a) be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above).

Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.

Duration

The minimum duration of the internship is two months. Depending on the department’s demands, this term can be extended up to a total of six months. Interns at the United Nations work full-time, five days a week (35 hours), under the supervision of a member of staff in the department or office to which they have been assigned.

The internship is UNPAID.

The following items must be included in your internship application:

It is necessary to submit a completed online application (Cover Note and Personal History Profile). Applications that are not comprehensive will not be considered.
The following items must be included in the Cover Note:

  • The name of the degree you’re pursuing now – Your expected graduation date (when will you be graduating from the program)
  • Make a list of the IT skills and program that you know how to use.
  • Make a list of your top three interests/department preferences.
  • Justify why you are the greatest candidate for that particular position (s).
  • Explain why you’re interested in the UN Internship Program.

Include all previous work experiences, IT skills, and three references in your Personal History Profile.

Professional employment experience is not required of applicants. Interest in the Sustainable Development Goals, on the other hand, is important. Excellent English writing skills, as well as digital and conventional communication capabilities, would be appreciated.

List the IT abilities and programs you know how to use, and explain why you are the ideal fit for the internship and what you intend to learn from it.
