Responsibilities

With the assistance of their mentors, interns tackle difficulties while working on ongoing projects in the lab. The goal is to find potential future employees and provide students with industrial exposure.

To further our efforts to develop the most effective large language models, with an emphasis on adding value for enterprises, we are seeking a bright and driven engineer or scientist. Working directly with IBM Infrastructure teams and IBM scientists in a flexible and enjoyable environment, the candidate will be in charge of training, optimizing, and inferring language models as well as creating prototype solutions to real-world issues.

Required education

Bachelor’s Degree

Required technical and professional expertise

Strong programming abilities in data structures, algorithms, problem solving, linear algebra, probability, statistics, and Java/Python (including Pandas and NumPy), familiarity with Git, Jupyter notebooks, and Visual Studio Code

Networking, security, scripting, monitoring and logging, cloud platforms and frameworks (AWS/Azure/IBM/Google), containerization (Docker/Kubernetes/Openshift), virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V), and AI/ML principles

  • Proficiency in Python programming and practical experience
  • Knowledge of cloud technologies (Kubernetes, containerization)
  • Exposure to various model types, including Dense, MoE, Mamba, and multimodal models.
  • Knowledge of Pytorch and FSDP
  • Knowledge of GPU optimization and tuning
  • Knowledge of training stack internals
  • Knowledge of various tuning methods, such as SFT, LoRA, and RL.

The IBM internship will be for a period of 3 months.
