About UNDP

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the United Nations’ sustainable development network for the world. It encourages countries to cooperate on technological and investment issues, advocates for reform, and connects countries to information, expertise, and tools to help people improve their lives. The UNDP is putting a greater focus on providing developing countries with expert advice, training, and grant funding as they seek to address global and national development challenges. However UNDP offers to help only if nations request it to do so. The UNDP is completely financed by voluntary donations from member states of the United Nations. The organisation partners with local governments to address development challenges and build local capacity in 177 countries to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by focusing on multiple issues such as poverty reduction and HIV/AIDS.

About The Internship

The intern will be responsible for the following tasks while working under the direct supervision of the SDG Localization Lead and the overall direction of the Regional Head (North Region).

Assist with the creation of District SDG Action Plans, SDG Index Reports, factsheets, and survey and study studies.
For relevant SDG information, coordination with various departments at the district and state levels is needed.
Collect and collate SDG indicator system details from different departments at the district and state levels.
Assessment of existing data discrepancies in the line departments of state’s policies and programmes in relation to the SDGs.
Collect and compile SDG data from a variety of secondary sources.
Integration and localisation of SDG agenda into state line departments and district development plans and into budget allocation.
Prepare papers, information resources, concept notes, excel sheets, and other materials needed to convert SDG District Profiles, Action Plans, and a manual on SDG fundamentals into a portal/app.
At the state and district levels, assistance in tracking and evaluating set goals and accomplishments.
At the district level, prepare a report, produce resource materials, and document best practises in SDG implementation.
Apart from the responsibilities mentioned above, the Intern will be responsible for completing other duties and assignments as assigned by the SDG Localization Lead/Regional Head.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must meet one of the following criteria at the time of application:

(a) Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme in Social Science, Public Policy, Rural Development, Management, or a similar area (master’s degree or higher).

(b) Be in the final year of a first-year university degree programme (such as a bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in Social Science, Public Policy, Rural Development, Management, or a related area.

(c) Have recently completed a university degree (as specified in (a) and (b) above) and must begin the internship within one year of graduation if selected;

(d) Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program.

Skills Required

Data collection and research experience in the area of social or economic development;
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; strong commitment to supporting gender equality;
Strong writing abilities, particularly in the area of short, quick, and engaging posts;
Excellent command of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) as well as web-based applications. [Working interns are expected to have their own laptop.]
Should be familiar with the statistical methods that have been created for the purpose of research.
Should be able to communicate effectively in both qualitative and quantitative terms.

Location

The UNDP is looking for an intern to help support the SDGCC’s work in Chandigarh’s Vit-te-Yojana Bhawan, Sector-33-A. The intern will work closely with the Regional Head (North region) and the SDG Localization Lead, SDGCC Punjab, under the overall supervision of the Regional Head (North region).

Stipend

If the internship is not financially funded by any organisation or programme, such as a university, government foundation, or scholarship programme, interns may be paid a stipend under the UNDP Internship Policy. A stipend to assist with basic regular expenses associated with the internship, such as meals and transportation to and from the duty station. The stipend would be paid on a monthly basis, with prorated payments for part-time internships.
