About NHRC

India’s National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is a statutory public body established on October 12, 1993, under the Protection of Human Rights Ordinance of September 28, 1993. The Protection of Human Rights Act of 1993 gave it legal status (PHRA). The National Human Rights Commission of India is responsible for the protection and promotion of human rights, which are described by the Act as “Rights Relating To Life, Liberty, Equality, and Dignity of the Person Guaranteed by the Constitution or Enshrined in International Covenants and Enforced by Indian Courts.”

Structure of the Internship

To sensitise the interns, about 50 sessions on different human rights issues are proposed to be covered. The Online Short Term Internship (OSTI) – April, 2021 will include following inputs:

• Address / Interaction with Hon’ble Chairperson / Members of NHRC and other domain Experts

• Project work on Human Right issues.

• Book Review to be submitted by the students

• Films on Human Rights & Discussion – Child Labour issues, Water Sanitation, Sports, Anti Trafficking, Health including mental health and Education issues and discussions etc.

• Virtual Field Visit

  1. Virtual visit to Jail
  2. Virtual field visit to Police Station
  3. Virtual field visit to NGO

Students get to see how these institutions operate and can have their questions answered.

Eligibility

  • Students studying in 3rd year and onwards of any integrated 5-year PG course
  • Students studying in 3rd / final year of graduation course
  • Students of any semester/year of any post-graduate degree course
  • Students of any semester/ year of any post-graduate diploma course
  • Students who are research scholars in any stream.

Students must have regularly received a minimum of 60% in Class XII and all subsequent classes, including the courses they are currently pursuing. The calculated percentage, as well as the formula for calculating the percentage, must be stated clearly from their CGPA/SGPA. Failure to do one of these items would result in the application form being denied.

Applicants will be expected to submit a 250-words write-up on the subject “Statement of Purpose (SoP) for joining NHRC Online Short-Term Internship” along with the online application form, which will also serve as a basis for selection. Students with research potential in areas related to human rights (to be indicated in the write-up) will be preferred.

Duration

The Online Short Term Internship Programme April will commence from 16th April , 2021 (Friday) to 30th April, 2021 (Friday) (15 days).
