About United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the United Nations’ sustainable development network for the world. It encourages countries to cooperate on technological and investment issues, advocates for reform, and connects countries to information, expertise, and tools to help people improve their lives. The UNDP is putting a greater focus on providing developing countries with expert advice, training, and grant funding as they seek to address global and national development challenges. However UNDP offers to help only if nations request it to do so.

The UNDP is completely financed by voluntary donations from member states of the United Nations. The organisation partners with local governments to address development challenges and build local capacity in 177 countries to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by focusing on multiple issues such as poverty reduction and HIV/AIDS.

About the Internship

According to the current GOI-UNDP Country Programme Action Plan (2018-2022), UNDP will assist governments in accelerating the implementation of government programmes at the state and local government levels, allowing them to improve last-mile service delivery. In Uttarakhand, UNDP is assisting the state government with the execution of initiatives such as the Uttarakhand Workforce Development Project (Skill Department), Uttarakhand State Rural Livelihood Mission (Department of Rural Development), and the Centre for Public Policy and Good Governance (Planning Department).

UNDP is looking for an Operations intern to work directly under the supervision of the Project Associate State Office of Uttarakhand, providing financial and administrative support. With a matrix reporting to the Head of State Office Uttarakhand, he/she will assist in the overall operations management of the State Office.

Roles & Responsibilities

  1. Support for operations-related follow-ups in collaboration with UNDP employees.
  2. Assist in the management of procurement activities and the upkeep of vendor relationships.
  3. Assist team members and external consultants with travel arrangements.
  4. Assist in coordinating publishing and printing orders with UNDP vendors.
  5. Assist in the maintenance of Project staff’s MS Excel-based database under the state office.
  6. Assist with office equipment maintenance and asset management.
  7. Assist in the conduct of interviews by providing coordination support.
  8. Ensure that all administrative and logistical assistance for all events and activities is coordinated.
  9. Assist the Operation Assistant with coordination and follow-up on the monthly release reimbursement.
  10. Aside from the responsibilities listed above, the Intern will be expected to carry out other duties and assignments as assigned by the State Head.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. A minimum of bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  2. Administration and management of support services experience.
  3. Computer and office software package experience is required (MS Word, Excel, etc.). Working knowledge of web-based management systems.

  2. Paying close attention to the smallest of details;
  3. Excellent research and analytical abilities;
  4. Collaborates with others to attain corporate objectives; elicits feedback by truly appreciating the thoughts and skills of others;
  5. Is open to learn from others and prioritises team goals over personal goals.
  6. Supports and acts in line with the ultimate collective decision, even if it does not completely represent one’s own viewpoint.

Duration

The UNDP internship will be for a period of 3 months.

Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India

Stipend

If the internship is not financially funded by any organisation or programme, such as a university, government foundation, or scholarship programme, interns may be paid a stipend under the UNDP Internship Policy.

A stipend to assist with basic regular expenses associated with the internship, such as meals and transportation to and from the duty station. The stipend would be paid on a monthly basis, with prorated payments for part-time internships.
