The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the United Nations’ sustainable development network for the world. The UNDP is putting a greater focus on providing developing countries with expert advice, training, and grant funding as they seek to address global and national development challenges. The UNDP is completely financed by voluntary donations from member states of the United Nations. The organisation partners with local governments to address development challenges and build local capacity in 177 countries to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by focusing on multiple issues such as poverty reduction and HIV/AIDS.
About the Internship
In complete accordance with UNDP policies and procedures, the Procurement Unit of the Country Office (CO) of UNDP India oversees and carries out operational initiatives in India CO.
The Procurement Intern encourages the Unit to follow rules and regulations in a consistent and client-focused manner. For reliable service delivery, the intern closely collaborates with the Country Office’s operations, program, and projects staff.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Encourage Transactional Procurement: According to UNDP policy, transactional procurement is defined as small-value purchases that cost less than $10,000. It is anticipated that the intern will expand the Vendor database for these areas.
- Making a supplier roster (category-wise): The intern is supposed to look over the Procurement Unit’s current vendor list and add possible suppliers under each heading. This also entails examining historical procurement data and spending analysis.
- High-value category market research is connected to the supplier roster, where the intern is supposed to carry out secondary market research in order to expand the supplier base. Reports on market research for high-value categories
- Assistance in maintaining the Procurement Tracker: The procurement team is responsible for updating this tracker. Reviewing all data points and assisting with the creation of a report organized by category are expectations for the intern. The turnaround time and bottlenecks will also be included.
- Regularly updating the Individual Consultant tracker: It is anticipated that data would be reviewed and updated on the internet portal.
- Assist in cleaning up procurement data, which includes analyzing procurement data points and producing reports that let the procurement unit make deductions.
- Sustainability Integration in Procurement: Help the Procurement Unit integrate social and environmental sustainability factors into procurement procedures. Supporting the review of previous and future procurement cases to find chances to apply sustainable criteria, creating a list of suppliers with acknowledged sustainability certifications, helping to draft language for RFQs and RFPs, and keeping track of internal reference materials like checklists or guidance notes are just a few of the tasks that will be required. Along with contributing to basic reporting and data entry associated with these initiatives, the intern will also assist in documenting instances of sustainable buying practices.
Skills Required
- Be enrolled in a postgraduate study in one of the following fields: finance, business & administration, or other related fields, such as a master’s degree or above.
- Be enrolled in the last year of a first-year university degree program in the aforementioned field, such as a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent.
- possess recent university degree completion (as specified in (a) and (b) above); if chosen, the internship must begin within a year of graduation; IT expertise in the areas of finance and administration will be advantageous.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and proficient utilization of the internet and web-based platforms.
- The capacity to complete tasks quickly.
- Strong teamwork skills and the capacity to adjust to changes in the workplace
- The capacity to work under pressure and modify as necessary
- Participate in the internship as a component of a postgraduate professional training program.
