The Reserve Bank of India is inviting applications for the post of Research Intern for the year 2025. Here is everything that you need to know about this RBI Internship!
Role Description
Both domestic and international students will be eligible for this opportunity. A high level of motivation is required. Candidates will have several possibilities to study and engage in research in our work environment. Candidates should have a strong interest in our key research areas and be able to benefit from our work in them.
- Will work with RBI experts on initiatives to give policy insights and articles that will be published in reputable economics and finance journals.
- Will help in the collection of correct and timely data, as well as the use of appropriate analytical, statistical, and econometric techniques to complete research tasks.
- May transition to writing research and policy articles of good quality.
Placements would be in four departments of RBI namely Department of Economic and Policy Research (DEPR), Department of Statistics and Information Management (DSIM), Strategic Research Unit (SRU), and International Department (ID). The details of these departments are given later in this document.
Qualifications
- DSIM : Post Graduate in Statistics / Econometrics / Economics or B.E. / B.Tech. (Computer) or MBA (Finance)
- DEPR : Post Graduate in Economics / Banking / Finance or MBA (Finance)
- SRU : B.Tech. or B.E. or Post Graduate with quantitative – oriented degrees in Economics / Finance / Statistical Science or those with expertise in Computer or Data Analytics. Programming skills or ability to acquire them are necessary.
- ID : Post Graduate degree in Economics / Statistics / Finance / International Finance / International Trade / MBA with specialization in finance / Banking / International Relations.
Desirable Qualification : Proficiency in applied econometrics and quantitative techniques; familiarity with some econometric software (e.g. Stata / Eviews / Matlab / R / Gauss).
Mode of Selection
- Selections will be made twice a year, based on RBI criteria, with internships beginning on the 1st of January or the 1st of July of the year in question. During the first five months of the prior half-year, the application window will stay open. For example, applications for internships beginning on January 1st will be accepted from July through November of the preceding year, and will be reviewed in December of that year. Similarly, applications for internships beginning on July 1st will be taken from January through May and will be reviewed in June of the same year.
- Candidates’ applications are only valid for the current batch (i.e. 1st January / 1st July) and will not be accepted for following batches. If interested, candidates who were not selected previously are encouraged to apply again when the application opportunity for the next anticipated batch opens.
- Candidates will be invited for a personal interview once the Bank has shortlisted them based on their CV, references, and Statement of Purpose. Interested individuals should submit their CV, references, and statement of purpose, as well as a completed application form, to the email address of the department to which they wish to apply.
- Applications that are missing a CV, references, and/or a Statement of Purpose are likely to be rejected.
- Faculty members of the individual candidates’ affiliated colleges / institutions may be contacted for references.
Work Experience : Not a pre-requisite.

Duration
The RBI internship will last for 6 (six) months and can be extended for another 6 (six) months depending on the needs of the unit and the intern’s performance. Exceptional achievers may be considered for a longer term contract (total internship period may be for a maximum period of two years with a provision for renewal every six months).
After being selected, the intern must finish the 6-month internship period, and if he or she wishes to cancel it, a notice period of at least one month must be fulfilled. If the intern is unable to serve the notice period for any reason, he or she will be required to pay a sum equal to one month’s stipend.
Perks
Stipend: Rs.45,000 / month
- The interns will be provided with office space, internet access, and other support services by the RBI.
- Interns will be entitled to 12 days of paid leave every six months (leave will be computed on a pro rata basis for any fractional period), and any absence beyond that will be considered unpaid leave.
- Interns will be responsible for making their own lodging arrangements.
